Tamperproof pallet racking
Case Study: Tamper-Proof Pallet Racking for a Leading UK Engineering Research Facility
Background:
A leading UK engineering company required an enhanced security solution for its research facility’s existing pallet racking system. The facility stored sensitive engineering components and prototypes, making protection against unauthorized access a top priority. Standard racking systems provided limited security and were vulnerable to tampering, prompting the company to seek a robust, tamper-proof upgrade that aligned with its high engineering standards.
Objective:
The goal was to create a secure, tamper-proof racking system that would protect valuable materials and deter unauthorized handling. The new system needed to be adaptable to multi-sized pallets (1200 mm and 1000 mm deep) while maintaining accessibility for authorized users. A key requirement was that any attempted tampering would be physically noticeable.
Solution:
The existing racking was upgraded with a comprehensive mesh enclosure system. Each bay was fitted with full-height, padlockable mesh doors, mesh side frames, anti-collapse mesh backs, and mesh tops — creating a fully enclosed, tamper-resistant structure. Every beam level was equipped with closed timber decks topped with additional mesh panels for enhanced containment and airflow.
To further strengthen security, all hinges and fittings were assembled using tamper-proof lock nuts and bolts, ensuring any unauthorized interference would leave visible evidence. The bays were designed to accommodate both 1200 mm and 1000 mm deep pallets, allowing flexible storage without compromising protection. Finally, the mesh doors were powder-coated in the company’s signature colours, reflecting the organization’s commitment to quality and engineering excellence.
Results:
The new tamper-proof pallet racking system provided a highly secure, visually striking, and functional storage solution. Unauthorized access was effectively deterred, security compliance improved, and the facility’s professional appearance was enhanced — reinforcing the company’s reputation for precision and innovation in engineering.
